As part of IRIS’ Working Together initiative, Community Town Halls are being held in four cities across Canada: Regina, Saint John, Vancouver, and Toronto.

Regina, SK – March 21, 2016 at 5pm
Saint John, NB – March 30, 2016 at 6-8pm
Toronto, ON – April 13, 2016 at 6-9pm
Vancouver, BC – April 18, 2016 at 5:30-9:30pm
What is the purpose of the Community Town Hall? The Town Hall aims to:
- Initiate a community dialogue on the issue of violence against Indigenous, racialized migrant and refugee women and women labeled with psychiatric and intellectual disabilities, and the importance of the community coming together to address it;
- Provide an opportunity to network and share information with groups that traditionally would not be in the same room together;
- Share introductory information and provide community members; front-line service providers; health and social service management; community activists; advocates from other social equity groups; local and provincial government representatives; and the broader local business community with the occasion to learn about the community-specific prevalence, nature, barriers, risks, challenges and service gaps in relation to safety for these groups of women. This information will be shared by women from each of these communities through the telling of their real stories.
- Hear about the Working Together initiative, the strategy, upcoming local level activities and the role people in the community can play in implementing this project in their community.
- Share information on the Local Steering Committee, lead partners and the national team – in order to get a sense of each group’s roles in implementing the project.
